Web Design Trends of 2016 - A Retrospect…

On 1/03/2017
Just like how moviegoers at the theatres are waiting for their favorite actors or actresses to play their roles on the screen, web designers and developers always look forward to see newer trends that are arriving on the stage every New Year. We are on the start of the New Year 2017, so we think it’ll not be too early if we start talking about latest website design trends that have been spread in the field in the course of 2016, now..!
How users consume the websites have a greater impact on the changes that we bring out in designing websites. The sudden upsurge in the popularity of mobile devices and the trend towards responsive design has pushed designers to find several ways to enhance web experiences for everyone. As more and more sites join the drive to become ‘mobile ready’, it’s quite important for every web designer or developer to have clear idea of what’s going on in the designing field, and we hope this could obviously help all such people…

  1. Split Screen

Vertical divide that splits the screen is a dominating layout trend which have been started to be used by popular design companies during 2015, but have came into prevalence in the year 2016. It’s basically a layout which signifies that, there are two different things with equal importance and the split screen allows a choice between the two for users. Besides, businesses may use such layouts to promote their products on one side and display supporting images, media or text on the other side.
  1. Card Layouts Replaced Tiles

Pinterest have made card-based designs (very close to grids) popular in 2015. Cards take designs to a deeper level by enhancing the overall functionality and interactivity. Each card, which is known to be a “content container”, used to represent one unified concept. Moreover, they are able to provide more information using hover effects, by flipping the cards over, expanding them, and a lot more..
  1. Longer Scrolling

With the multitude of screen sizes, the chances for the term “above the fold” to lost its significance is greater. So, in order to make a site more mobile friendly and achieve the story-line effect completely, websites have resorted to implement longer scrolling instead of linking. Adding slick animations and visually appealing elements to achieve perfect scrolling effect are also the strategies preferred by most designers.
  1. Full-screen background video

Right now, full-screen background video is a rising trend of web design. Designers believe that this perfect automatic background video could not only elevate the value of the website, but also is perfect for drawing immediate attention of people because the human eye is drawn to movement. As far as our understanding, a video background is really making impacts to designs.
  1. Ghost Buttons

Are you able to see loud and flashy buttons in the websites nowadays..? Very rare, right..? That fashion has almost disappeared. Usage of ghost buttons, otherwise known as transparent/hollow buttons, is yet another trend that has ruled the roost in the year 2016. Ghost buttons include only the outline of a button along with just a word or two in simple typography, mostly in the center. And that’s what makes them look attractive. They help sites to highlight most of the content they want audiences to actually see.
  1. Typography

Typography is the art and technique that is opted by designers for arranging type to make written words more attractive and eye catching. Designers are exploiting the potential of big and dramatic typefaces to make strong statements and thereby improving the visual aspects of their design. It’s believed that the approaching year will result in more adventurous use of artistic and creative fonts on websites.

7.Animated story

Beyond just having an amazing content, it’s found to be crucial for websites to tell a story through this content. Web designs in 2016 are found to focus on the “animated storytelling” feature. Websites which are telling stories in this way are found to immediately capture visitors’ attention. More cool designs were found to tell you story about the company on scrolling further down the page..!

8.   Microinteractions

Tons of single-action is tasked every day on a website, from pressing an elevator button to liking a photo on Facebook/Instagram. Such simple moments of engagement is simply referred to as “microinteractions”. This is another term that has given prominent importance during the past year. Microinteractions offer an instinctive way for users to interact with a website, if efficiently done; however, they could cause frustration for users when done wrong.
While moving on to a New Year, people used to call to mind, the best moments and the best things that had happened in the past year. We’ve observed plenty of great trends in the year 2016 and that’s what we have exactly shared with you over here. Some of them might have almost reached the heap of their popularity, so we’re expecting to see their further improvements in the year 2017. So.., just don’t be surprised if you meet these 2016 buddies on the 2017’s list too…!
